The Colombo Kaps franchise in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) has been acquired by Indian sports consortium Witness Sports Alliance LLC ahead of Season 6. The acquisition was made by Indian entrepreneurs Saranyan Palaniswamy and K.C. Shyam Kangayan, who have officially rebranded the team as Colombo Kaps.
Palaniswamy is a seasoned business leader and sports investor, while Kangayan previously served as CEO and Executive Director of the Ruby Trichy Warriors in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). The duo also co-own the Ruby White Town Legends in the Pondicherry Premier League (PPL).
Sri Lanka Cricket welcomed the development warmly. Samantha Dodanwela, Director of Sri Lanka Cricket, stressed the LPL’s competitive and commercial appeal and expressed hopes for growth and innovation under the new ownership.

The new owners expressed enthusiasm about their venture into Sri Lankan cricket. They stated their goal is to contribute to the league’s long-term success by building a competitive, fan-focused, and professionally managed franchise.
The upcoming 2025 LPL season also marks a historic moment, as Indian players will participate for the first time, following the BCCI’s long-standing restriction on its players featuring in foreign leagues.
The sixth edition of the LPL will run from December 1 to 23, 2025, featuring 24 matches in total, the longest season in the tournament’s history, spread across R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, and Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium.
