India are set to begin their two-match Test series in Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium on August 15, with the opening Test scheduled to run through to August 19.

The venue for the second Test has not been officially confirmed, but the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) Ground in Colombo is the expected host, with that match pencilled in for August 23. Neither Sri Lanka Cricket nor the BCCI has formally announced the itinerary, though the start dates are understood to be broadly accurate.

Both Tests will count towards the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle, a series India cannot afford to take lightly. Shubman Gill’s side currently sit sixth in the WTC standings, having won four, lost four and drawn one of their matches so far. Points from Galle and Colombo could prove decisive in their pursuit of a place in the final.

The series will mark India’s first Test tour of Sri Lanka in nine years. The last such visit came in 2017 under Virat Kohli, when India whitewashed the hosts. The most recent Test between the two sides, however, was played on Indian soil in March 2022.

India’s overall Test record against Sri Lanka stands at 22 wins, seven losses and 17 draws from 46 matches. In Sri Lanka specifically, India have won nine of 24 Tests.

A three-match T20I series during the tour is also being discussed, though nothing has been confirmed on that front.
