Mumbai Indians (MI) face a crucial IPL 2026 clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday, April 20, but uncertainty looms over the availability of star opener Rohit Sharma.
Rohit has been sidelined since sustaining a hamstring injury during MI’s match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), which also forced him to miss the subsequent game against Punjab Kings (PBKS). The team management has taken a cautious approach, unwilling to risk further damage by rushing him back prematurely.

There are, however, positive signs. Rohit was seen resuming batting practice in Ahmedabad ahead of the GT fixture. MI’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey confirmed he is “fit” and training with the squad, but stressed that the final decision would depend on match readiness and team combination rather than medical clearance alone.
No official confirmation of his playing XI inclusion has been made, with a final call expected closer to the toss.
His return would be timely as MI have been inconsistent this season, and the GT game shapes up as a must-win. As the most experienced batter in their lineup, Rohit’s presence could prove the difference on a big occasion.
For now, he remains doubtful, and Mumbai will hope their captain is ready to lead from the front when it matters most.
