Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat the Mumbai Indians by 18 runs in an exciting IPL 2026 match at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. But the bigger talking point was not the result, it was a worrying injury scare involving star batter Virat Kohli.
Kohli was seen getting treatment on his left leg during the 10th over of RCB’s innings, when he had scored 35 runs off 25 balls. He pushed through the pain and went on to score a solid 50 off 38 balls, before being dismissed by Hardik Pandya in the 15th over. But fans grew more worried when he did not return to the field during Mumbai’s chase, having walked off the field during the powerplay. He was later spotted sitting in the dugout as RCB wrapped up the win.
Commentator Simon Doull mentioned that Kohli had suffered an ankle injury. The news made fans nervous, as Kohli has been one of RCB’s key players this season.

RCB captain Rajat Patidar was quick to calm everyone down after the match. “I don’t know, but I feel he’s okay right now,” Patidar said at the post-match presentation, offering some much-needed relief.
On the pitch, RCB put up a strong batting show. Phil Salt smashed 78, Patidar added 53, and Tim David chipped in with useful runs at the end, as the team posted 240/4 in 20 overs. In reply, the Mumbai Indians gave it a fight, Sherfane Rutherford hit an unbeaten 71, but could only manage 222/5, falling 18 runs short.
The win took RCB to third place in the IPL 2026 standings, behind only Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings, who are the only two teams still unbeaten this season.
All focus will now shift to Kohli’s recovery, with RCB set to face Lucknow Super Giants at home on Wednesday, April 15. The team will be hoping their star batter is fully fit and ready to go.
