Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been dealt a significant blow in IPL 2026 with the news that left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to injury.
Khaleel sustained a Grade 2 quadriceps tear and will require 10 to 12 weeks to recover fully, effectively ending his season prematurely.
The injury occurred during CSK’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14, when Khaleel felt pain in his right thigh while bowling. He attempted to continue but was forced to walk off the field without completing his over, immediately raising alarm among the team’s support staff.
The timing could hardly be worse for CSK. The team lost their first three games of the season and currently sit eighth on the IPL 2026 points table, having steadied the ship with two consecutive wins.

Khaleel had been a key component of CSK’s pace attack, relied upon to take early wickets in the powerplay and break partnerships at crucial moments. Across five matches this season, he bowled 16.5 overs, conceded 146 runs, and claimed two wickets.
His absence deepens an already worrying bowling crisis at the franchise. Nathan Ellis is injured, Matt Henry has been struggling for form, and Spencer Johnson is yet to join the squad, leaving CSK’s pace department dangerously thin heading into the crucial middle phase of the competition.
CSK may turn to Mukesh Choudhary if fit, or pace-bowling all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh as potential replacements, with a decision expected ahead of their next fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18 in Hyderabad.
Adding to the franchise’s concerns, captain MS Dhoni is also not fully fit, though the 44-year-old is expected to return for the match against the Mumbai Indians on April 23.
CSK’s management will need to act swiftly in the IPL replacement window to shore up their bowling resources and keep their playoff hopes alive.
