Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2026 campaign has taken another hit as young opener Ayush Mhatre is set to miss several games with a hamstring tear, while uncertainty continues to surround MS Dhoni’s long-awaited return.
Mhatre picked up the injury while attempting a quick run during his knock of 13-ball 30. He tried to battle through the pain but was eventually dismissed and had to be helped off the field by teammates and the physio. Batting coach Michael Hussey confirmed the setback, though he remained positive, viewing it as an opportunity for others to step up.

CSK’s injury woes don’t end there. Khaleel Ahmed and Nathan Ellis are already out for the season, adding to the mounting pressure on the squad.
Meanwhile, Dhoni, sidelined since before the tournament began with a calf injury, has now missed all five matches. Though CSK initially expected him back within two weeks, there is still no confirmed return date. A potential comeback against the Mumbai Indians on April 23 has been hinted at, but nothing is official yet. Coach Stephen Fleming noted that Dhoni continues to be heavily involved with the team off the field.
With a thin squad and a string of injuries, CSK face a tough road ahead in IPL 2026.
