Format & Structural Evolution

Over the years, the tournament has grown through new formats, increased number of participants, and stiff competition, thereby promoting the development of emerging cricket in Asia.

Initial Format (2013-2023):

Since its debut in 2013, this tournament has been played in a 50-over List A format. Teams were divided into two groups of four, and each team played a round-robin match. Only the top two from both groups qualify for the semifinals.

T20 Format (2024-Present):

Starting from the 2024 event, the competition has shifted to T20 format. The name of the tournament was changed in 2025 to the Asia Cup Rising Stars, which is played according to the ICC T20 rules, including Super overs in case of a tie and the DLS method in case of rain interruption.

Group and Knockout Format:

There are two groups (Group A & Group B) consisting of four teams. All the teams play round-robin matches in their groups. The top two from each group qualify for the semifinals, where they play the final match.

The 2025 rename to “ACC Men’s Asia Cup Rising Stars”

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) decided to rename the Emerging Teams Asia Cup as the ACC Men’s Asia Cup Rising Stars from 2025 onwards. The competition has a unique format which consists of “A” teams for full members and national teams for Associate Members of the continent.

Conclusion

The ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup was launched back in 2013 in Singapore, but in the 2025 edition will get a new name and become the Rising Stars Cup. It will be a good legacy for the tournament because Pakistan won three titles in the time frame, while Sri Lanka, India, and Afghanistan will also have a place in its history.

Because of the new format of the tournament and a new name (T20 cricket and the Rising Stars Cup), we can say that the future of the tournament is rather bright.
