Top 10 Highest Team Scores In IPL History (2026 Records)

Written By: Sanjay Thomas

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 287/3 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on 15 April 2024 remains the highest team total in IPL history. Scored at 14.35 per over, that innings reflects a broader scoring surge.

A significant share of 260-plus totals has come in 2024 and 2025. The data highlights three consistent factors: flat batting surfaces in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam, and Kolkata; Powerplays regularly exceeding 75–90 runs; and the Impact Player rule extending batting depth without weakening bowling balance.

These totals were built through sustained acceleration across phases rather than isolated late overs.

Head’s 102 off 41 and Klaasen’s 67 off 31 kept overs 7–15 above 12 per over, preventing any middle-phase slowdown. Joseph conceded 58 in four overs and Topley 68, as full-length variations were consistently converted into boundaries.

With Abhishek, Head, Klaasen, and Samad providing multi-phase hitting depth, SRH attacked both pace and spin without consolidation overs. They moved past 200 in 14.6 overs, effectively removing defensive recovery options for RCB.

2. Sunrisers Hyderabad – 286/6 vs Rajasthan Royals (2025, Hyderabad)

Hyderabad’s even pace and short square boundaries suited front-foot strokeplay, and SRH exploited it with 94/1 in the Powerplay before reaching 150 in 11.2 overs.

Ishan Kishan’s 106* off 47, featuring 11 fours and six sixes, ensured the scoring rate stayed above 13 through the middle phase, while Head’s 67 prevented any consolidation overs. Archer went at 19.00 per over, and Farooqi failed to control lengths under pressure.

The shift from 130/2 to 202/3 came in under five overs, driven by sustained boundary frequency rather than isolated big overs. By the 15th over, the platform had already pushed the total beyond defendable norms.

3. Sunrisers Hyderabad – 278/3 vs KKR (2025, Delhi)

SRH opened with 79/0 in the Powerplay and advanced to 150 in 10.3 overs, keeping the run rate close to 15 through the first half.

Klaasen’s 105* off 39 at 269.23 strike rate dismantled both pace and spin, particularly targeting Nortje (15.00 economy) and Varun Chakravarthy (18.00).

Head managed Narine’s tighter spell before increasing tempo once spin rotated out. The innings moved past 200 in 14.4 overs and 250 in 17.4 overs, indicating sustained middle-phase dominance rather than a late-over spike. KKR’s inability to control overs 7–15 proved decisive in the final margin.

4. Sunrisers Hyderabad – 277/3 vs Mumbai Indians (2024, Hyderabad)

SRH accelerated past 150 in 10.2 overs and crossed 200 in 14.4, maintaining a run rate above 13 through the first 15 overs.

Head’s 62 off 24 and Abhishek’s 63 off 23 combined for 125 inside 11 overs, targeting Coetzee (14.25 economy) and Maphaka (16.50) during the Powerplay and middle phase. Bumrah remained controlled at 9.00 per over, but the rest of the attack leaked boundaries consistently.

Klaasen’s 80* off 34 sustained the death overs above 13 per over. MI’s 246/5 at 12.30 confirmed the surface offered uniform batting conditions across both innings.

5. Kolkata Knight Riders – 272/7 vs Delhi Capitals (2024, Visakhapatnam)

KKR raced to 88/1 in the Powerplay and crossed 150 in 10.6 overs, keeping the run rate above 13 through the first half. Narine’s 85 off 39 dismantled Ishant (14.33 economy) and Nortje (14.75), shifting pressure immediately.

The 100-run stand with Raghuvanshi came in just 44 balls, preventing any middle-overs slowdown. Russell’s 41 off 19 pushed the total beyond 270 with sustained boundary hitting.

In reply, DC slipped to 33/4 inside 4.3 overs, a collapse shaped by scoreboard pressure rather than surface conditions.

6. Sunrisers Hyderabad – 266/7 vs Delhi Capitals (2024, Delhi)

A 125/0 Powerplay provided immediate control. SRH reached 100 in 4.6 overs and 150 in 8.4.

Head’s 89 off 32 and Abhishek’s 46 off 12 ensured the run rate remained above 15 through the first half. Khaleel and Lalit Yadav conceded heavily, while Kuldeep’s 4/55 came after early damage. Crossing 200 in 14.5 overs maintained the scoring balance before the death phase.

7. Royal Challengers Bengaluru – 263/5 vs Pune Warriors (2013, Bengaluru)

RCB’s 263/5 was built on a 167-run opening stand that lasted 13.4 overs, removing early pressure entirely. Chris Gayle’s 175* off 66 came at a 265.15 strike rate, reaching 100 in 30 balls and 150 in 53, with 17 sixes dictating tempo.

RCB crossed 100 in 7.5 overs and 200 in 15.5, maintaining acceleration rather than relying on a late surge. Marsh conceded 56 in three overs and Dinda 48 in four, as missed yorkers were consistently punished. Gayle also returned 2/5, sealing a 130-run margin that reflected total dominance.

8. Punjab Kings – 262/2 vs Kolkata Knight Riders (2024, Kolkata)

Chasing 262, PBKS set the base with 93/1 in the Powerplay and reached 150 in 11 overs, keeping the required rate aligned with scoring tempo.

Bairstow’s 108* off 48 at a 225 strike rate dismantled Chameera (16.00 economy) and Rana (15.25), converting length errors into boundary clusters. Narine conceded just 24 in four overs at 6.00, but the remaining attack went above 15 per over. Shashank’s 68* off 28 maintained 14+ per over through overs 13–18.

The chase closed in 18.4 overs, reflecting phase-wise control rather than late acceleration.

9. Royal Challengers Bengaluru – 262/7 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (2024, Bengaluru)

RCB launched the chase with 79/0 in the Powerplay and reached 100 in 7.6 overs, keeping the asking rate within reach early.

Du Plessis set the tempo upfront, while Karthik’s 83 off 35 at 237.14 strike rate kept the equation alive through the death overs. The shift came between 111/2 and 122/5, where three wickets in quick succession stalled momentum.

Despite finishing at 262/7 at 13.10 per over, the required rate never dipped enough after SRH’s 14.35 first-innings surge. The middle-overs disruption ultimately widened the 25-run gap.

10. Kolkata Knight Riders – 261/6 vs Punjab Kings (2024, Kolkata)

KKR built their 261/6 around a 138-run opening stand, reaching 150 in 11.4 overs with scoring consistently above 13 per over.

Salt’s 75 off 37 and Narine’s 71 off 32 targeted Rabada (17.33 economy) and Curran (15.00), disrupting length early. They crossed 200 in 15.2 overs, sustaining momentum through the middle phase.

PBKS responded with 93/1 in the Powerplay and matched the tempo by reaching 200 in 14.6 overs. With no early breakthroughs, the 261 total lacked a defensive cushion on a true Eden surface.
