The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has allowed Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s parents to accompany him on his maiden India tour of Ireland and England, with the board bearing all their travel and accommodation expenses.
The 14-15-year-old sensation earned his T20I call-up after an exceptional IPL 2026 campaign, amassing 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30 and becoming the tournament’s leading run-scorer. His stellar performances earned him the Orange Cap, MVP, and Emerging Player of the Season awards.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia explained the decision, noting that having a 14-year-old in the senior squad is unprecedented in decades, with Sachin Tendulkar being the last player to join at such a young age. Saikia stated the board believes parental presence will help Sooryavanshi adapt to an adult-dominated environment and address potential issues.
Currently engaged in Sri Lanka’s tri-series with India A and Afghanistan A, Sooryavanshi was recently involved in an on-field altercation during the match against Sri Lanka A. However, Saikia dismissed concerns about BCCI action, emphasizing the match referee and umpires maintain jurisdiction over playground incidents.
The two-match T20 series in Ireland and England begins on June 26.
