Maharaja Trophy Era: Finals Results in Detail (2022–2025)

Since the rebrand in 2022, every final has produced a different champion, a four-year streak with no repeat winner.

2022Gulbarga Mystics beat Bengaluru Blasters by 11 runs
2023Hubli Tigers beat Mysuru Warriors by 8 runs
2024Mysore Warriors beat Bengaluru Blasters by 45 runsM. Chinnaswamy Stadium

The 2024 final was the most one-sided of the Maharaja Trophy era. Mysore Warriors posted 207 and crushed Bengaluru Blasters by 45 runs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on September 1, 2024. The 2025 final gave Mangaluru Dragons their first-ever title, completing a remarkable run of four different champions in four Maharaja Trophy seasons.

KPL Era: A Look Back at the Karnataka Premier League (2009–2019)

The Karnataka Premier League was the original incarnation of this tournament. It ran for eight completed seasons before the KSCA rebranded the competition in 2022 following betting and match-fixing controversies that had tarnished the KPL name.

Key moments from the KPL era:

  • 2009 — Provident Bangalore won the inaugural edition, beating Belagavi Panthers in the final. No Bengaluru-based side has won the title since.
  • 2010 — Mangalore United claimed the second title, beating Provident Bangalore — the previous champions — in the final.
  • 2011–2013 — The league was suspended for three years.
  • 2014 — Action resumed with Mysore Warriors beating Belagavi Panthers.
  • 2015 — Bijapur Bulls won their first title, beating Hubli Tigers.
  • 2016 — Bellary Tuskers claimed the trophy, defeating Hubli Tigers once again.
  • 2017 — Belagavi Panthers won, reversing their 2014 final defeat against Bijapur Bulls.
  • 2018 — Bijapur Bulls clinched their second title by beating Bengaluru Blasters.
  • 2019 — Hubli Tigers finally won the KPL title after multiple final appearances, beating Bellary Tuskers.
  • 2020–2021 — Tournament suspended again, this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Hubli Tigers have appeared in the most finals — five — across both eras, winning two. No team has come close to their final appearances tally.
  • Bengaluru Blasters hold the unwanted record of three runner-up finishes without ever lifting the trophy (2018, 2022, 2024).
  • Belagavi Panthers reached the final three times but only won once (2017).
  • Gulbarga Mystics and Mangaluru Dragons each won their only final appearance — a perfect record in the title match.

Why Was the Tournament Renamed? KPL to Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20

The Karnataka Premier League was shut down after the 2019 season following allegations of spot-fixing and betting. Several players and franchise officials were investigated, and the KSCA chose not to run the KPL beyond that point.

When the tournament returned in 2022, the KSCA rebranded it entirely as the Maharaja Trophy, named in memory of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar, the last Maharaja of Mysore and a former BCCI president. The rebrand gave the tournament a fresh identity and severed ties with the controversy that had clouded the KPL name.

The Maharaja Trophy also brought structural changes:

  • A cleaner franchise model with more transparent governance
  • Broader participation, including players from other states
  • Expanded broadcast reach via Star Sports Network and FanCode
  • New venues outside Bengaluru, including Mysuru and Hubballi
